Aanvi Kamdar, a 26-year-old Mumbai-based Instagram travel influencer, died after falling into a gorge at Kumbhe waterfall near Maharashtra’s Raigad while shooting a reel, authorities have confirmed.
Aanvi Kamdar was on a trip with seven friends to the waterfall when she slipped into a deep crevice while they were filming a video.
Following a six-hour rescue operation, Aanvi was safely brought out from the gorge. However, due to severe injuries sustained in the fall, she died at the hospital.

How Aanvi Kamdar fell?
Kamdar slipped while filming near the waterfall. The rescue operation, hampered by inclement weather, involved multiple teams. Rescuer Shantanu Kuveskar stated, “She fell on the hard, slippery patch of rocks around 300ft into the valley and couldn’t be spotted initially. She was sent up using a stretcher attached to rappelling ropes. Six rescuers climbed down the hill, while another 50 assisted atop the hillock.”
Kuveskar added that Kamdar was responsive during the rescue and on her way to the hospital, but she was on ventilator support.
Kamdar had slipped and fallen in a 300-feet deep gorge near ‘Kumbhe’ waterfall in Mangaon while shooting a video, according to a police official. Her friends immediately alerted the police and the fire and rescue team, who immediately jumped into action.
Following a 6-hour rescue operation, Aanvi was brought out from the gorge.
Her body was flown to a nearby health facility before she breathed her last during the treatment session due to severe injuries sustained because of the fall.
She was a chartered accountant by profession and had worked with IT consulting company Deloitte. Kamdar gained fame because of her reels and she had more than 250k followers on Instagram. Authorities have since issued an appeal warning tourists to take extreme care when visiting waterfalls, especially during the monsoon season.
A family of 5 drowned in Pune Waterfall last month
Earlier on June 30, a family of five drowned at a waterfall near the Bhushi Dam in Bhushi Dam. Rescue teams recovered the bodies, including one of the two missing children. Suhas Diwas, the District Collector of Pune, urged the public to avoid water bodies during the rainy season. “I appeal to the public to be responsible and not go near any waterfalls or streams. We have issued advisories and the management has asked us to handle any sort of incident. Similar incidents have taken place over the last couple of days. Care needs to be taken and proper planning needs to be done, keeping in mind the weather conditions,” Diwas said.
The bodies were recovered by the rescue teams.
One of the two children, who were missing after the family drowned, was found dead, a senior district official said.
Suhas Diwas, the District Collector of Pune, appealed to the public to be careful of their visiting surroundings and to not go near any water bodies in the rainy weather.
He said “I appeal to the public to be responsible and not go near any waterfalls or streams. We have issued advisories and the management has asked us to handle any sort of incident. Similar incidents have taken place over the last couple of days. Care needs to be taken and proper planning needs to be done, keeping in mind the weather conditions.”
According to a police official from Mangaon police station, Kamdar had gone to the scenic waterfall with her friends during the rainy season, as reported by PTI. In the report, he explained that while filming the surroundings, she fell into the gorge. He added that after her friends raised an alarm, the police and local rescuers reached the spot and took her to the nearby Mangaon Taluka Government Hospital. She passed away during treatment there.
